We have been lucky enough to be working with older people in community and care settings across Herefordshire for the last 5 years. Our projects range from short pop-up projects like our Poetry pen pals international exchange project, to our long term mentor led programmes. We run a range of different projects to engage as many older people in a wide range of activities and settings.

Colour Me Purple  is our newest mentor led project. It is exciting to be able to extend our residencies to implement a visual arts strand into the Creative Ageing programme. This two year project will seek to encourage creative participation and sharing of experiences, through working with older people using visual arts based activities as a starting point in nursing, residential and day centre settings. Our project mentor is Jeanette McCulloch, who has vast experience working on community art projects. The creative art activities will be adapted to suit all abilities, and can provide the opportunity for individual self expression, creativity and communication through non verbal channels.

Jeanette, our project mentor, will be holding training sessions for care staff, activity leaders and arts practitioners. They will be a great, big ‘Goodie Bag’ packed full of useful skills and ideas galore… accessible and affordable ways of running art sessions with older people.

Dance Magic Dance is our dance and movement mentor led project, which has been running since 2015. We are working with leading dance artist Diane Amans, who specialises in community dance for older people. She has worked with five local dance artists to support them to deliver 10-week long dance residencies in care homes across the county. We have been overwhelmed with enthusiasm for this project and we have residencies booked up till 2017! Suitable for all abilities this project is a fantastic opportunity for residents to be creative and express themselves through gentle dance and movement.

Diane, our project mentor, runs public training sessions for care staff, activity leaders and dance practitioners who want to gain skills, knowledge and experience in leading dance activities with older people.

Our Creative Ageing Forum is free event that we run quarterly here at the Courtyard. It is an opportunity for individuals or organisations to share ideas and projects, network and gain awareness of creative work that is happening in Herefordshire.
