Roald Dahl Literacy Project

During the Spring and Summer term each academic year The Courtyard works with several primary schools throughout the county on the Roald Dahl Literacy Project. Delivering five two-hour workshops throughout the autumn the drama sessions provide stimulus for different writing exercises to enable young people to develop their writing skills.

The project culminates with the children performing their own devised performances at The Courtyard for family and friends to celebrate the work of their loved ones. This has proven to be a great way to engage parents with their child’s schooling. Tickets are on sale now for the Roald Dahl Sharing Day.

Our evaluation demonstrates the positive impact the project has on the progression and development of the participating children and in particular the response of SEN children has been noted by many teachers.

Information is sent to schools during the Autumn term ready to kick-start in the Spring. Starting with an INSET induction day teachers are also tooled with drama activities and exercises to continue outside of the project. Many of these can be adapted within other areas of the curriculum.
